Chapter 9: Creating Opportunities for Positive Behavior

This chapter completes the set of skills needed to redirect child behavior to a positive path. It is in fact the flip side of decreasing negative behavior. What must be understood is that the removal of a negative behavior by itself is insufficient! There is no such thing as a vacuum in behavior! A child discouraged from one type of negative behavior will usually form a new NEGATIVE BEHAVIOR to replace the old one, unless specifically guided to a positive behavior. It is up to the parents to make sure that the replacement behavior is a positive one. Why this is necessary and how parents do this is the subject of this chapter.
