Chapter 14: Practicality and Pitfalls

This chapter is given over to a quick discussion on the question of Nature verses Nurture. These concepts are important as parents can be put under great pressures to accept certain negative behaviors as being normal for their child. Especially in the case of some learning or behavioral disorders, this kind of thinking does a great disservice to families that are in difficult situations to begin with. The discussion evolves around the idea of routines and security issues as being even more important in the above circumstances. Encouragement is given to parents to keep strong and provide a safe and secure haven for their children who may be experiencing more duress outside the home and in school situations.

A further point is made to give information on a frequently overlooked problem that is easily corrected, yet causes children to be unable to read or unable to read well.
